Winterlude is a free winter festival in Ottawa which as of 2017 is 39 years old. The celebration spans from February 3rd-20th this year and last year the festival drew in around 600,000 visitors! Most of the events such as the ice carving competition, live music and food trucks are located in the downtown area in Confederation Park. However, some events take place in other areas of the Capital region including Gatineau.
Brand new this year will be the 'Ice Dragon Boat Festival' which will see boats racing on the frozen Rideau Canal on Feb 17-18th. This is the first event of it's kind in North America and should certainly draw in a crowd! Most events take place on the weekend and being in close proximity to the Rideau Canal a visitor can easily pop on their skates anytime and have fun between the entertainment.
So if you live in Ottawa or are considering a visit this is some of the finest entertainment the city has to offer during winter! If a family member is tagging along who doesn't like the outdoors then the Rideau Centre shopping mall is only a few steps away from the canal and the park. The Byward Market is also close by which has a variety of shops, stalls and restaurants to choose from!
Enjoy Winterlude! Thank you Ottawa for giving us this wonderful event each year to come back to!
