Large crowds gather this weekend at Confederation Park and the Rideau Canal downtown as Winterlude kicks off for the 2017 season. Winterlude is a festival held each year in Canada's capital city of Ottawa. The festival has been running for 39 years now and has become a capital region tradition.
Ice sculpting competitions, demonstrations, live music, performance art and food trucks are some of the many activities available to enjoy. Best of all most of what is included above is free! Crowds from previous years tend to average at 600,000 in the 3 weekend span of events. You can also skate on the nearby Rideau canal at no cost as well. Shopping indoors at the recently renovated Rideau Centre is always a treat for the shopaholics in the family! The Byward Market is close by as well with a wide variety of cuisines to choose when the group gets hungry!
